Producer - Late Night Program, Dark Mofo

Range between $85,000 - $95,000 per annum (pro rata)
Plus 11.5% Super

DarkLab, the team behind Dark Mofo, is looking for a producer to deliver underground, site-specific late night festival experiences. The Producer is responsible for translating the creative concept and sourcing artists and performers in line with the festival theme. You will work closely with Dark Mofo’s Artistic Director, and the programming, production and design teams on the delivery of the night program. To succeed in this role you will need to be innovative, self-driven, collaborative and adaptable in order to operate in a dynamic environment with high change and big ideas.   

THE GIG:

  • Translate the creative brief in line with the festival theme developed by the Artistic Director into unique night experiences – including venue design, diverse programming, patron experience and event schedule;
  • Identify unique venues within which the festival clubs can be produced;
  • Identify and engage potential artists and performers in line with the creative brief; support the Music Director and Music Programmers to identify music performers;
  • Work cooperatively with the Site Design and Technical Production teams to co-design the interior design of the club, technical production and resourcing requirements to deliver the event;
  • With the Project and Productions Managers, assess the key operational and safety risks associated with the event and identify plans to manage them, including crowd and traffic management;
  • Work with the Project and Production Managers, Executive Producer and Artistic Director to produce the event in line with time, budget, and compliance requirements, ensuring production proceeds in line with the creative concept;
  • Work with Design and Marketing teams to produce appropriate marketing and other collateral required to support the delivery of the project;
  • Provide progress updates to the Artistic Director and Executive Producer, advising on timelines and budget actuals;
  • Participate in design reviews to ensure the creative integrity of projects;
  • Liaise with stakeholders including venues, artists, agents and promoters;
  • Negotiate, prepare and finalise artist contracts ensuring technical production requirements are met and adequate insurances are in place;
  • Ensure project development and delivery adheres to relevant Work Health and Safety requirements;
  • Pursue cost savings, efficiencies and sustainable practices wherever possible.

THE YOU:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or demonstrated capability through past industry experience;
  • Established networks and knowledge of arts, music and performance practices within creative industries;
  • Proven events management skills with experience in planning, management and delivery of creative events with time, budget and creative risk parameters;
  • Experience in devising programming, contracting and engaging artists for unique events;
  • Experience in developing and managing large project budgets;
  • Organised, calm and experienced in managing complex and competing projects within a festival or large event environment;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage key relationships and multiple stakeholders;
  • Ability to manage a dynamic workload and operate effectively towards deadlines;
  • A confident team leader, capable of managing staff and problem-solving issues;
  • Collaborative, flexible and actively contributes to group problem-solving challenges;
  • Proficient in Google suite and Microsoft Office programs;
  • Proficiency with event scheduling software is desirable.
